The Annals of Oncology published in May 2004 a study "Assessing websites on complementary and alternative medicine for cancer". This study concluded that nearly 50% of the 32 most popular web sites on CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) for cancer " offer information of extremely variable quality. Many endorse unproven therapies and some are outright dangerous". As an action plan, the study concludes that "cancer organisations and other impartial interest groups should investigate websites and create and administer a ‘seal of approval’, for safety and reliability, such as the HONcode".

It is the presentation of the two tools for the quality of the medical information on Internet, MedHunt for searching the information, and the HONcode to highlight the trustworthyness of the websites.
HON has realized a Press Release relating the development done about a new tool for Trustworthy Health Information. This new HONcode Toolbar is the first of its kind, and allows web surfers to highlight and select text from a web page and search for HON-certified sites (nearly 4000) about more than 33'000 medical and health topics. This "HONcode status" feature lets the user check whether a site bearing the HONcode seal is really in compliance with the Code. The HONcode Toolbar was developed jointly with NetUnion, a software development firm in Lausanne, Switzerland within the European research project ACTIVEHEALTH. MedNet
