Bacterial Infections in Childhood: Cellulitis

Description

Cellulitis : An acute, diffuse, and suppurative inflammation of loose connective tissue, particularly the deep subcutaneous tissues, and sometimes muscle, which is most commonly seen as a result of infection of a wound, ulcer, or other skin lesions. [1]

Staphylococcus aureus : Potentially pathogenic bacteria found in nasal membranes, skin, hair follicles, and perineum of warm-blooded animals. They may cause a wide range of infections and intoxications. [1]

Haemophilus influenzae : A species of HAEMOPHILUS found on the mucous membranes of humans and a variety of animals. The species is further divided into biotypes I through VIII. [1]

Pasteurella multocida : A species of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria normally found in the flora of the mouth and respiratory tract of animals and birds. It causes shipping fever (see PASTEURELLOSIS, PNEUMONIC), HEMORRHAGIC BACTEREMIA, and intestinal disease in animals. In humans, disease usually arises from a wound infection following a bite or scratch from domesticated animals. [1]
