Health Tip: Help a Broken Toe Heal
Here's what to do

By Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- A broken toe needs evaluation by a doctor to determine the best treatment. Prompt and proper first aid is important to speed healing.

The American Podiatric Medical Association suggests:

  • While you wait to see the doctor, apply ice if you suspect your toe is broken.
  • Keep your foot elevated.
  • Avoid putting weight on the foot.
  • Use a soft compression bandage to wrap your foot. But don't make the bandage too tight.
