Identifying the best program

By Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- A program to help your child get to and maintain a healthier weight is useless unless it succeeds.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders suggests looking for these signs of an ideal weight-management programs:

  • It has a number of different experts on staff, including doctors, psychologists and registered dietitians.
  • It monitors your child's health and weight before the program starts, as well as during the program.
  • It offers different options based on your child's age and abilities.
  • It offers after-program resources to help your family maintain a healthier weight.
