By Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- Most of the time, a bruised muscle isn't a serious injury. But it can be a painful nuisance, especially among athletes and others who exercise frequently.

  • Pain and swelling of the muscle.
  • Reduced range of motion.
  • Blue discoloration of the skin.
  • Muscle stiffness and weakness.
