Health Tip: Savor a Healthier Sandwich
Include more nutritious foods and less fat
By Diana Kohnle
(HealthDay News) -- Making a delicious, healthy sandwich is a great way to bring more nutrients into your meals without sacrificing taste.
The University of Rochester Medical Center suggests how to create a healthier sandwich:
- Make a grilled cheese with tomato sandwich, or make a Philly steak sandwich with grilled tomatoes, onions, peppers, zucchini, mushrooms and cheese.
- Substitute Portobello mushrooms for meat and top with sundried tomatoes, spinach, olives, roasted red peppers and feta cheese.
- Add fruit to tuna or turkey salad sandwiches, mix chopped oranges with celery in light cream cheese and spread on raisin bread, or make a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
