Health Tip: Coping With the Flu
If symptoms aren't severe, you may not need medication

By Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- You're feeling miserable, mired with symptoms of the flu. Do you know what to do to feel better and avoid getting others sick?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers this advice:

  • If your symptoms are mild, you probably don't need antiviral medication or a doctor's care.
  • Stay home and avoid contact with other people.
  • If symptoms are severe or you're at higher-than-average risk of complications, contact your doctor.
  • If you think you'll need an antiviral medication, call your doctor without delay. It's better if an antiviral drug is begun soon after symptoms start.
