Potential complications of severe cases

(HealthDay News) -- Morning sickness, characterized by nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, can cause malnutrition for the mother and the developing baby if it's severe enough.

The Nemours Foundation says possible complications of severe morning sickness may include:

  • Weight loss for the mother.
  • Dehydration and an imbalance of electrolytes for the mother.
  • Fetal organ failure.
  • Premature delivery.
