Here are some of the latest health and medical news developments, compiled by the editors of HealthDay: 2nd Person Infected With SARS-Like Virus in Saudi Arabia A second person in Saudi Arabia has been infected with a new respiratory virus related to SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), government officials confirmed Monday. In a statement, Saudi Arabia's Health Ministry said the patient was hospitalized with "pneumonia caused by the new virus known as novel Coronavirus," the Associated Press reported. The patient had not traveled outside the capital city of Riyadh and has since recovered from his pneumonia, according to the statement. It did not say when, where or how the patient contracted the virus. The case brings to three the number of people sickened by the virus in the Gulf region in recent weeks, the AP reported. ----- Sharon Osbourne Has Double Mastectomy TV talk show host Sharon Osbourne recently underwent a double mastectomy after learning she has a gene that increases the risk of developing breast cancer. The 60-year-old wife of rock star Ozzy Osbourne underwent 13 hours of surgery to have her breasts removed BBC News reported. She was previously diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002. "I've had cancer before and I didn't want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off," Osbourne told Hello! magazine. "For me, it wasn't a big decision, it was a no-brainer," she explained. "I didn't want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl. "I didn't even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time," she said. Osbourne has appeared on a number of TV shows. She is currently one of the hosts of the CBS daytime show "The Talk", BBC News reported.
