You may have tooth decay

(HealthDay News) -- If you find that eating or drinking something hot or cold delivers a shooting pain to your pearly whites, you may have sensitive teeth.
The American Dental Association says common causes of tooth sensitivity include:
- Cavities.
- A fractured tooth.
- Worn dental fillings.
- Gum disease.
- Worn tooth enamel.
- An exposed tooth root.
