In addition to the Spain, French Speaking Africa (based in Mali) and English speaking Africa through collaboration with the Medical Research Council in South Africa, HON is also in the process of establishing representations in Canada and in Italy. HON is a not-for profit, neutral, and Non-Governmental organization which has been active in the promotion of the quality of online health information since 1995, the date of the creation of the HON Foundation. HON is inspected on a regular basis by neutral, and external experts to ensure that we respect the stringent standards such as the EN 45011/ISO65 norm. The HONcode certification is free of charge. HON is international and speak 34 languages to date. Our ultimate goal is to provide trustworthy medical and health information to all.
Are there are any new projects / developments in the pipeline? HON is also active in the development of technologies and services of tomorrow. We are aware that the certification has limitations. To counteract this, we continue to carry out various research procedures. One of the latest studies carried out was applied research on the detection of ethical principles such as the HONcode and the quality of the health information. Another research study that HON is carrying out is on the readability, health literacy and accessibilities issues. We are in the process of releasing the beta version of the HONcode guidelines for the Web 2.0. It will be open to discussion and comment through the HON web site.
