(Platanus)
The plane tree genus consists of deciduous trees, such as the American
sycamore ( P. occidentalis ), the Oriental plane ( P. orientalis )
and the London plane ( P. acerifolia ), which are native to temperate,
northern zones. Plane trees are often used for their wood or as an ornamental
tree in cities, especially the London plane which, as the name implies,
is common in London. Plane trees produce the characteristic downly tufts
seen in many European cities in Spring and early Summer and which spell
misery for those allergic to it. [ ]
