Ash ( Fraxinus)
A tree or shrub, of the genus Fraxinus , belonging to the Oleaceae family. Found principally in northern temperate zones. Ash trees usually display small clusters of greenish flowers and wind-disperse their characteristic long-winged fruit. The white ash ( F. americana ) is used as a source of durable hardwood timber while the blue ash ( F. quadrangulata ) provides a blue dye, hence the name. The mountain ash and prickly ash are not members of this genus. [ 2 ]
Olive ( Oleaceae)
The Olive, Oleaceae , family of trees and shrubs are generally
found in warm, temperate climates and the Old World tropics. The true
olive tree, although known as Olea europaea , is actually native
to Asia Minor. This small, evergreen tree produces the olive which can
be eaten or pressed into olive oil. Other members of this family include
the ash, lilac, true jasmine and Forsythia . The olive branch has
long been a symbol of peace. [ 4 ]
