Lymphocytes and some mononuclear phagocytes can recirculate between lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues. This helps in allowing lymphocytes to be exposed to the antigens which they recognise and is, therefore, valuable in the distribution of immune response effector cells to the sites where they are needed.
