Antihistamine

Drugs which block the action of histamine , thus preventing or alleviating the major symptoms of an allergic response .

Antihistamines are typically combined with a decongestant to help relieve nasal congestion.

Examples include:

  • Alkylamines (Chlorpheniramine, Brompheniramine)
  • Ethanolamines (Diphenhydramine, Dimenhydranate, Clemastine)
  • Piperazines (Hydroxyzine, Meclozine, Compazine)
  • Piperadines (Azatadine, Triprolidine)
