Editorial board
An editorial board, consisting of experts in their respective fields, assesses the scientific validity of material submitted via the category managers/editors. Their main aim is to protect the image of the MRC as a credible scientific research organisation and the image of AfroAIDSinfo as a credible source of HIV- and AIDS-related information. A web-based information portal developed by the South African Medical Research Council. It provides up-to-date, scientifically accurate information on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) with a specific focus on the southern African region.

Initial funding was provided by the International AIDS Society (IAS); Bristol-Myers Squibb HIV/AIDS Research Institute "Secure the Future"; and the South African Medical Research Council.
