Ageing is a progressive loss of dynamics regulating cellular, tissular and organ interaction.

Ageing is both a genetically programmed and an environmentally (" wear and tear ") influenced process. More than 300 theories of ageing exist: genetic, immune, "wear and tear", repair –alteration, oxygen free radicals, mitochondrial, and "error catastrophe" theories of ageing are the most important.

Genetic factors account for about 30 percent of the variance in life expectancy. Environmental factors (life style, diet, physical exercise, smoking, and alcohol consumption) are also significantly responsible for the initiation of the ageing process.
